On Saturday, February 13, 2016, Justice Antonin Scalia of the United States Supreme Court passed away at a West Texas resort. While the members of Madia Law may not have always agreed with Justice Scalia’s opinions on marriage equality, he was a strong advocate for the idea that the Constitution protects criminal defendants’ civil rights against “overzealous police investigations, intrusions on the right of the accused to examine witnesses at trial, and attacks on the right to a jury trial.” Robert Smith, Antonin Scalia’s Other Legacy, www.slate.com (Feb. 15, 2016).
